See and believe

When things are not going my way or when God takes me off roading, it’s hard to believe that His promises are true. Promises that my pain has a purpose, His ways are full of joy, and He cares for me. When my head doesn’t fully understand and my heart doesn’t fully trust, this is when I have to believe with my eyes.

When I see the squirrels and birds still alive and well in this winter, I’m reminded of the fact that “they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them.” And since I’m His beloved child, God will care and provide for me in this season (Matthew 6:26).

When I see the white snow covering the ground, I’m reminded that “though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow” and that this promise is “Yes” in Christ, and my deepest need in this life has already been fulfilled (Isaiah 1:6; 2 Corinthians 1:20).

So I’m writing this down –

“Oh joy that seeks me through the pain,
I cannot close my heart to thee.
I trace the rainbow through the rain
and feel the promise is not in vain,
that morn shall tearless be”

– and reminding myself that I have a sovereign and good God that seeks me in and through my pain.

Because when my head doesn’t fully understand and my heart doesn’t fully trust, I have to believe with my eyes.

Always Pursuing,
